We have had an extraordinary amount of rain fall so far in 2026. This leads to a lot of sewage overspills and nasty run off entering our waters. No good for water quality, marine life, or swimming; it can lead to bacterial infection and sickness among other things.

What is your water company doing to reduce the problem?
What can the UK do to collect its rainfall and make better use of all the water?

With all the stormy seas, and fewer opportunities for swimming, why not take some time for a beach clean. Both the ‘#2minuteBeachClean’ and ‘#Take3fortheSea’ campaigns offer a good mantra for helping clean up our shorelines.

Work your way along the shoreline, often where the seaweed has gathered and then been stranded as the tide has gone out again. Once you start to look, sometimes it feels impossible to be able to collect all the plastic and litter that you’ll see. But making time to even take a handful of pieces that you find, is a contribution to cleaning up our seas & beaches and protecting marine life from ingesting or tangling in harmful plastics.
