As the Spring and Summer approaches and we all await the beautiful calmer blue seas on the horizon, it’s a great time to look at possible Sea Swim Events or Bi- / Triathlons that you might enter!
There are so many to choose from these days; charity swims, sprint triathlons, biathlons, 1k, 2k or 3k swim festivals, landmark swims, longer distances; 10k’s or even a channel swim!

Keeping Swim-fit and having a Training Schedule leading up to an event is essential to get the most out of the experience. Perhaps you’ve entered a triathlon; you’re generally a pool swimmer, you’ve no concerns about the run and bike leg, but actually you’ve never swum more than a few metres of breaststroke in the sea! Well, that’s where an Open Water Swim Coach can help.
In just one session you can gain some useful Sea Swimmer Knowledge about Entry and Exit points, Acclimatisation, Stroke technique and how to avoid Cold Water Shock. Setting you apart from the other competitors and shaving seconds off your race time. Even if it is all ‘Just for Fun’, it’s a guarantee that the more prepared you are for the Sea leg, the more enjoyable the whole experience will be.
Developing your swim fitness in the pool first can be a brilliant way to build strength and stamina before taking to the Open Water. Knowing the hazards – sea & air temperature, tides, weather conditions, after drop, cold water shock and so on – before you begin Sea Swimming will minimise any problems.
And adjusting your swim style and adapting to the buoyancy of the Sea Water can all help improve your swimming.
Stroke technique can play a big part in your efficiency moving through the water, ask a Swim Coach for a session or two to iron out any small faults that will greatly impact your swim enjoyment and time.
There are many reasons for entering events, and training for them is key. Get in touch to discuss how I can assist you with your Sea Swimming and make that event something to remember!
